Coffee Oasis Kingston – How we can do it

Did You Know?

That there is a need for homeless teen services in Kingston and North Kitsap?

That Leadership Kitsap helped to raise $67,300 toward a Coffee Oasis serving Kingston?

The Leadership Kitsap project team the North Kitsap Collaborators organized and hosted three community forums designed to raise the awareness of the needs of Kingston youth and to educate the community as to how The Coffee Oasis can best help to meet those needs. The forums included numerous Kitsap County leaders as presenters, including Dr. Scott Lindquist (Kitsap Public Health District), Rob Gelder (Kitsap County Commissioner), Kirsten Jewell (Kitsap Regional Coordinating Council), Schon Montague (Kitsap County Sheriff’s Department), Dave Frederick (Executive Director of The Coffee Oasis), Christy Cole (Principal of Kingston High School), Judson Miller (Principal of North Kitsap High School), and many others. The Kingston Rotary, Kingston Kiwanis and Kitsap Community Foundation each sponsored a forum.

Following completion of the community forums, the project team compiled the information and handed the project off to a local steering committee that continues to meet regularly. In addition to increasing the visibility of homeless teens and The Coffee Oasis, the project team also helped to raise financial support for the project. The project team hosted a fund-a-need event that raised $2,300. At the 2014 Leadership Kitsap graduation ceremony, the Kitsap Community Foundation announced a leadership level gift supporting the funding of The Coffee Oasis in Kingston with a grant of $65,000!
