Each year Leadership Kitsap Alumni Association recognizes an outstanding individual who best exemplifies servant leadership, someone who has made an outstanding contribution to our community.

In honor of Leadership Kitsap’s 25th anniversary, the Leadership Kitsap Alumni Association is proud to recognize our Founding Board President Doug Berger with the Leadership Kitsap Legacy Award.

Doug served on the Bremerton Chamber of Commerce and was part of the group of citizens that first conceived the idea of forming a community leadership program in Kitsap County. He served as President the first three years of Leadership Kitsap from 1993-1996 and is namesake to Leadership Kitsap’s Hanten-Berger Scholarship Fund.

Anne Blair, one of those early leaders shared that Doug was always available, accessible, and willing to talk through ideas. He was a cheerful problem solver, ready to be collaborative. “He was essential to so many people becoming involved.”

Irmgard Davis, an early Board member and long time Board Treasurer shared, “Doug does a lot behind the scenes. Wherever there is a need, Doug is usually there to step up. If he can’t do it himself, he knows someone that can.”

Doug continues to contribute to the Leadership Kitsap program. He has spoken at our Orientation and Opening Retreat, and given fiscal responsibility training to our Board of Directors. He helped established an endowment fund for Leadership Kitsap through the Kitsap Community Foundation.

A point of interest: Doug also helped establish Leadership Kitsap the same year he founded the Olympic College Foundation.

He enjoys being involved in Rotary and is Founder and Senior Vice President with the Cascade Group at Morgan Stanley. His contribution to our program and our community is immeasurable.
