Education Day was held November 19, 2021 virtually on Remo and gave class members insight into education from birth to adult continuing education in Kitsap County.

Connie Mueller (LK01), Kitsap Community Resources Early Learning & Family Services Director introduced the class to the science behind, and great community benefit, of early childhood education and the unlimited potential of ALL children.

Harriette Bryant (LK05), Founder, President, and CEO OurGEMS (Our Girls Empowered Through Mentoring and Service) introduced our student panel facilitated by OurGEMS graduate and college student Kennedy Tisdal. It was a highlight hearing from students in OurGEMS and at Catalyst Pubic Schools. Students shared their challenges learning in a pandemic and the value of having caring and involved mentors and teachers.

Dr. Alecia Cosgrove-Nye, Associate Dean of Nursing shared the educational opportunities at Olympic Collegeand specifically the innovative ways the college is addressing the nursing shortage in Kitsap County.

Lisa Lechga, Community Engagement Manager with Kitsap Regional Library demonstrated the Library’s approach to community engagement and the many resources available to our class of emerging leaders.

As part of the day, Board member Lowell Sweet (LK04) facilitating our Positive Leadership discussion on the leadership capacity of Purpose – the “why” behind what we do as leaders. The theme was woven through each presentation.

The afternoon was set aside for teams to meet in person, with their community partners, and to participate in our ongoing “The Great Kitsap Scavenger Hunt.”
