Leadership Kitsap’s Economics Day was held at Watson Furniture on December 6, 2019. Mike Hanson, Watson Furniture Group Chief of Staff, shared the story, products, and guiding principles behind the unique, local manufacturing company. The class had the privilege of taking a guided factory tour.
Port of Bremerton Executive Director Jim Rothlin shared the important role of the Port in Kitsap’s economic future. Kitsap Economic Development Alliance’s Executive Director John Powers shared the exceptional value of economic opportunity in Kitsap County, and Executive Director of PSNS & IMF, Rick Tift (LK00), expanded on the importance of a military and government presence to maintain Kitsap County’s economic stability.
A panel of local business leaders shared their experience and economic insights with the class. The panel included: Mike Hanson, Alanna Imbach (LK18), Co-Founder Vibe Coworks; Kellie LeTexier, COO Kitsap Credit Union; and Larry Nakata, Chairman Town & Country Markets.Alex Cervantes (LK18) facilitated the discussion. One class member remarked, “The Q & A was helpful & insightful. Gave me great thoughts to bring back to my workplace.”
Leonard Forsman, Chairman of the Suquamish Tribe and John Forsman (LK07), Casino Shift Manager at Suquamish Clearwater Resort described the impact the Tribe and Port Madison Enterprises have on Kitsap’s economy including their many commercial activities, and how the Tribe gives back to the community. Alanna Imbach shared Kitsap’s entrepreneurial and start-up culture.
